Online news site Cheapism.com dubbed Fairfield County’s own Ridgefield as the state's best place to shop its “Best 'Main Street' Shopping Districts in All 50 States” ranking.

In an attempt to stray away from big box stores in favor of mom-and-pop shops, the list gathers the most quaint shopping districts from towns with fewer than 90,000 residents.

Ridgefield’s Main Street and Danbury Road are named by Cheapism.com as the places to check out for not only the shops and boutiques they house but also the number of other post-shopping activities each offers — including theaters, museums, and more.

According to the blog In Ridgefield, the town also has a plethora of hikes, trails, or beaches for visitors to enjoy.

Perhaps the best after-shopping treat is the food options Ridgefield offers.

The 300-year-old town has dozens of restaurants to choose from for any palette, including French-American, Mexican, bakeries, farm-to-table, and more.

Additionally, the town, only an hour outside of New York City, is rated the safest town in Connecticut, its government claims.

So whether you’re looking for home decorations, a classy new wardrobe, or a really great cocktail to top off the evening, Ridgefield is the best area of Connecticut to check out (or re-visit).
